11.  As always, come prepared with  healthy foods and plenty of water.

2.  Parents are not allowed on deck, not even for pictures.  I'm sorry.  I don't make the rules.

3.  Saving seats isn't allowed

4.  No coolers will be allowed in the stands

5.  No balloons will be allowed in the facility.

6.  Swimmers will participate in both Friday and Saturday's events regardless of placing.

8.  There will be an award ceremony on Saturday at 5pm for the top 6 in each event.  Awards will be present on the platform on the far north wall of the facility.  Pictures will be taken immediately following the awards presentation down below in the multipurpose room.  Parents won't be allowed on deck to take pictures.  ( Again, I don't make the rules)  Pictures will be taken by the media and the IHSAA official photographer.

District Information

Hello all!   I am sorry for getting this to you so late but I just received this information myself earlier today.  Here is everything I know so far about Districts.

1. Districts will be held this coming Tuesday, October, 23rd at the West YMCA.  5959 N Discovery Way, Boise, ID 83713.

2.  I think doors will open for swimmers right at 7am.  In years past we had to be there early to fight to get a spot on deck but this year, they said that there will be signs where we are supposed to sit.

3.  This is a long meet.  You need to bring things to keep you entertained and fed all day.

4.  I can get the school's van to transport swimmers needing rides, however that means you are stuck with me all day. I have to be to at the pool no later than 6:45.  That means we have to leave the school at 6 am sharp.  I cannot wait for you if you are late.  If we have swimmers that make it into the finals, we will probably be there until 9pm.  It is a long day.

5.  There are fees for parents to watch.  Gate fees are $10, $7, $5 for both sessions  & $6, $4, $3 for one session.

6.  There will be around a 1 1/2 hour break between the end of prelims and before the start of Finals.  It is slated to be around 1-3:30.

7.  The Y will be designating areas for each team in order to alleviate the chaos.   Teams will be allowed to have their team banners.   The pool will be cleared from 1-3:30pm.  The Y is providing 10 porta potties.  Spectators will not be allowed in the locker rooms.

8.  There will be food trucks.
Waffle Me Up, Twisted Sister Coffee & Smoothies  - prelims
Scotty Dogs - finals

Here is the timeline:

Prelims:
6:45am - pool monitors, coaches, officials
7am - swimmers, volunteers and spectators
7:15 - coaches meeting
7:30am -warm ups
8:30am - prelims start

Finals:
3:15 - pool monitors, coaches, officials
3:30pm - swimmers, volunteers and spectators

Saturday's Meet - Nampa 9/22

This is our first local meet and they do things a bit differently than what we are used to.  Please read carefully.

1.  Doors at the Rec Center open at 8 am.  There are 9 teams competing at this event so deck space is very limited.  The bleachers are only for spectators.  There is a back patio area where they want the teams to set up.  They will have a speaker outside announcing the events.

2.  Parents/Spectators have to pay to get in.  Adults are $6, Students $4 and Seniors/Grade School students are $3.    The Spectator entrance is on the west side of the Rec Center or around the corner, to the right of the main entrance.

3.  The Nampa team is working really hard to keep the meet on track and get everyone out by noon.  In other words, they aren't going to wait for you to get to the block.  Make sure you are watching and listening to events.

The rest of the week of August 22-25th

Hello all!
It has been a rather crazy and slightly disappointing week with the COI pool being closed due to a filtration issue.  Here is the schedule for the rest of the week:

Thursday, 8/23 and Friday, 8/24
Meet at the Spurwing Golf Course Pool at 6:30am - 7:30am.  It is an outdoor pool so please dress appropriately.  There are no locker rooms so you have to go home to get changed.  Mrs. Oldenkamp has given us permission to be late to school.  Try to be at school no later than 8:30 am.

Team suits arrived today and will be handed out at practice in the morning.  Cross your fingers they fit.

Saturday, 8/25  Hailey Swim Meet

  1.  Meet at the school right before 5am if you need a ride or want to caravan.  It takes roughly 2 hours and 50 minutes to get to the pool.
  2. You must dress for both winter and summer.  The meet is an outdoor meet and it is cold in the morning, then hot in the afternoon.  I do have polarized goggles you can use to race outdoors to help minimize the glare of the sun.
  3. You need to bring camp chairs, towels, breakfast, snacks and lunch. (think about the swim meet as day camping)  If you are riding with me, I stop in town to get lunch before we go home. You are responsible for paying for yourself.
  4. Warm ups are at 8:15 am and the meet starts at 9:00 am.   It lasts right around 2 hours.
I am really excited for our first meet!   We always do well at the Hailey pool.  Below is the Invite to the meet, along with directions to get to the pool

                                                                 FAQs

How long does the season run?
The high school swim season starts Monday August 13th and ends with the State Tournament the first week in November.

             What are the practice times/days?
This swim season we will be practicing at the College of Idaho pool.  Practice will be 4 days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  For the first two weeks, practice will run from 6:15 - 8pm.  After September 4th, Monday practice may be moved from 7:15 - 9 pm.  I am just waiting to hear back from the college.  You must attend 85% of the practices in order to participate at a swim meet, along with having 10 practices in before the first meet and passing grades in all core classes.   Always send the coach a text or email if you cannot attend practice, along with the reason.

                 What are the costs?
a.       Things you need to purchase:
1.       Team cost $150.00 for the season.  This pays for the pool fees and entry into the swim meets.  Money is due in full on Monday, September 3rd.
2.       Practice suits (can be purchased on-line at Swimoutlet.com for around $15.00 – 29.00) - You usually need 2 to get you through the season.
3.      Good googles (cheap googles don’t last and leak – Swimoutlet.com and Big 5 sporting goods sell them for around $25.00)
4.      Practice Cap ( Swimoutlet.com, Big 5 and the Swim and Run Shop sell them for around $3-5.00)
5.  Two of our meets are out of town.  We usually carpool as a team to get there. However, meals are not provided.

6.  Sports Physical - all new swimmers, Freshmen and Juniors are required to have a sports physical.  If you already have one, I will need a copy for my records.  You can get one for around $25.00.  Just print the paperwork from my blog and bring it to your doctor.  Physicals are due no later than August 24th.
b.      Things I purchase for you:
1.       Team Sweatshirt
2.      Team Racing Suit (cannot be worn at practice)
3.      Team Racing Cap (cannot be worn at practice)

       Can I letter in swimming?
Yes! You must either meet the point requirements, State Tournament qualifying times or go to State on a relay team. You must also be recommended by the coaches for being a team player, having passing grades and no disciplinary issues at the pool or school.

Can I use swim team as a PE credit?
Yes! You have to keep track of the hours you swim and the coach must sign off on your tracking log.

Do I need to be an excellent swimmer to join swim team?
No, however, you do need to be able to swim 1 lap in the College of Idaho pool.  Swimmers are divided at practice according to ability.  I do suggest you join a summer swim team, take lessons and/or take the time to brush up on your strokes before swim season starts in mid-August.  We hit the ground running!

Do I have to try out to be on the team?
No, however, you must be able to swim at least one lap, put your face in the water and be able to swim in the deep end.  Because this is a competitive high school sanctioned sport, faster swimmers get first pick of events and relays.

    Commitment
I ask that my swimmers, when they make the commitment to the swim team, to take it seriously.  A Total Commitment to your team means pursuing your goals, playing your part, and doing your job to the absolute best of your ability, no matter what it might be. Just as every person has specific tasks they are expected to accomplish in life, so too does every athlete have a set of tasks they are expected to fulfill on their team.  Please be on time.  Clear your schedule for practice.  Be a supportive teammate to your fellow swimmers and an attentive listener to your coaches.  Be ready to give 100%.
